Junior Varsity Coaches

Brent Whiteside


Originally from Brooks, Alberta, Canada where Brent played junior hockey in the AJHL for 3 years. He then continued his hockey career at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, playing for the Blugolds. Brent has been coaching at PLHS for the past 15 years.

He currently lives in Shakopee with his wife, Robin. They have two children, Karth is a senior at the University of Minnesota, Duluth and Rylee is a sophomore at the University of Minnesota, Morris.

Christian Wise


Christian graduated from the Academy of Holy Angels in 2014 and was a two-sport captain his senior year at Holy Angels (Hockey and Lacrosse).

Christian has played hockey all his life and continues to do so whenever he can. However, he started playing lacrosse his freshman year at Holy Angels. He played three years of varsity hockey and two years of varsity lacrosse.

Even though he had many opportunities to continue playing hockey, he decided to walk-on at Hofstra University (Long Island, NY) for lacrosse. After one year at Hofstra he decided it was best to focus on school and transferred to the University of St. Thomas where he graduated with a bachelors degree in finance.

Joey Kanz


Known as Coach Kanz at the rink and Officer Kanz during his “day job”, Joey joins the Prior Lake Boys High School Hockey program for the 2021 season.  Although new to the Junior Varsity coaching staff, he’s been coaching hockey the past three years and is looking forward to his first year with the boys program. Coach Kanz grew up playing hockey and baseball in Winona Minnesota going on to play college baseball. It comes as no surprise that he also coaches fast pitch softball and states "I have a real passion for inspiring our young adults through athletics and life lessons.”   Outside of coaching and policing our community you can find him spending time with his wife and three children or on the golf course.  "Yes I believe I can beat coach Pankratz in a golf match…..
